Custom Resolution Utility (CRU): Display Overclocking and Eliminating Frame Scaling Jitter
Advanced display timing calibration using ToastyX CRU. Removing unused CEA-861 extension blocks to enforce pixel-perfect native GPU scaling.
Fine-Tuning Display Timings for Zero Scaling Lag
When running non-native resolutions like 1280x960 in competitive shooters, graphics drivers must stretch the pixels across your monitor. Misconfigured EDID handshakes between GPU and monitor can introduce micro-stuttering and input jitter. Custom Resolution Utility (CRU) provides surgical control.
CRU Optimization Protocol
- Download CRU: Run as Administrator to directly inspect the monitor\'s EDID registry.
- Strip Unused Audio Blocks: Delete unnecessary CEA-861 audio extensions if you don\'t use monitor speakers, freeing DisplayPort bandwidth.
- Native Timing Enforcement: Create an explicit Detailed Resolution for your custom competitive resolution (e.g. 1280x960 @ 360Hz) with exact pixel clock synchronization.
- GPU Scaling Setup: In NVIDIA Control Panel, select Perform scaling on: GPU and tick Override scaling mode set by games.
Eliminating the Black Screen Resolution Switch Delay
By declaring custom resolutions as native detailed timings in CRU, launching games or Alt-Tabbing no longer triggers the frustrating 3-second black screen handshake on DisplayPort 1.4 cables.
